Which Gear is Upgradeable?
There are several varieties of gear in Minecraft. Of these, you can only upgrade some of them. To begin with, you get wood tools; then, you can create stone tools, iron tools, gold tools, diamond tools, and, finally, netherite tools. When you upgrade gear, you find that you cannot upgrade wood tools along with chainmail and leather armor.
You can still upgrade stone, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite gear! This is very useful, as it gives you loads of options. Naturally, you will start with wood tools, which is the only kind of resource you can gather to make any sort of gear without preexisting gear to collect it. How to Upgrade Gear in Minecraft Update 1.19
You can upgrade your gear in two phases. The first is relatively simple. You only need to collect resources and craft gear that is the same as in which you plan to upgrade. In doing this, you will have a second piece of gear that still has full durability. Understandably, that can sometimes be difficult in the event that you are trying to work with diamond or netherite gear. It is part of the process, nevertheless.
The second phase is the part that gets a bit more tricky. Don’t worry, though, I’ll make it all make sense. Once you’ve got both of your tools and maybe even an enchanted book or two that you collected along the way, the real fun begins. From here, you will take your tools and any enchanted books to an anvil, where the two pieces of gear will be combined. Once you’ve upgraded your gear with the newer piece of gear with full durability, you can combine the product with an enchanted book if you wish to do so.
