After you complete each temple in the game, you are given a new ally who will aid you in combat and give you a new ability to take advantage of. You can make them even more effective if you get enough Sage’s Wills in Tears of the Kingdom. Enhance the sages to get more use out of them. Increasing the power of your sages will give you even more of an advantage when you decide to take on bosses again. Here is how to upgrade sages in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How To Get and Use Sage’s Wills in Tears of the Kingdom

To improve the sages in Tears of the Kingdom, you must collect Sage’s Wills. These are key items that are only found among the sky islands. All of them are located in chests dotted across these high elevations. There are 20 in total, with four needed to upgrade one sage at a time. Each sage can only be upgraded one time, with no way to revert the process if you accidentally gave it to the wrong person.

After you have collected at least four Sage’s Wills, you need to talk to one of the Goddess Statues. These are the same NPCs you take your Light of Blessings for more hearts and stamina. If you have enough, they will first ask which sage you want to improve. Again, you cannot revert your decision, so be sure to pick the sage you want to upgrade the most. There are enough for each in the game; you will just have to hunt down more to get them all.

After you upgrade a sage in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, that companion’s Vow will become a Solemn Vow. This means that the sage you upgraded will now have increased attack power. We upgraded Tulin and didn’t notice any increase in his air gust ability. However, his arrow projectiles noticeably did more damage to enemies. We would have liked to see their upgraded abilities become more enhanced, but we will take the damage buff when we can get it.

Some people have quite the odd relationship with the sages in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Sure, they definitely have their uses in the temples built for their abilities, but in the open world, they can be a little more hit-and-miss. Regardless of your thoughts, being able to upgrade the sages in Tears of the Kingdom is something you shouldn’t pass up.
