This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

The massive 2.0 update launched for Cyberpunk 2077 and brought new life to Night City. The update not only has new missions and items to the game but also overhauled the weapon system. That said, only certain weapons can be upgraded, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that this is a bit confusing. If you’re looking for an answer, this guide will provide details on how to upgrade iconic weapons in Cyberpunk 2077ย 2.0.

To upgrade your weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, you need to enter the Crafting panel in the main menu and then click on the Upgrades tab. Here, you will see weapons that you can update. Remember, with the latest update, only iconic weapons are suitable for this upgrade. You can recognize such weapons by their gold background.

To upgrade a weapon, you will need various components. This will vary depending on the rarity of the item you want to upgrade and to what tier you want to upgrade it. While doing this, it’s important to note that the Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary rarity levels have undergone a transformation and are now sorted from Tier 1 to 5++.

You can find the changes made about weapons in the 2.0 update below;

  • Crafting and upgrading now require only one type of component instead of multiple types.
  • Replaced old rarity levels (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary) with Tiers (from Tier 1 to 5++).
  • Apart from cyberware, now only Iconic weapons can be upgraded. They gain a higher Tier with each upgrade.

For instance, to upgrade the iconic Kaiken variant named Nehan, which was added to the game in patch 2.0, from Tier 2 to Tier 2+, you need to spend 75 Tier 2 components. To upgrade the same item from Tier 2+ to Tier 3, 40 Tier 3 components are required. The logic is quite simple. You spend components of a level similar to the level of the weapon you want to improve.

While upgrades in the lower tiers typically demand 40 to 75 components, the requirements will vary as you progress to the higher tiers. When you want to upgrade a weapon from Tier 5+ to 5++, you will probably spend 200 Tier 5 Item Components.

How To Find Components for Weapons

Well, now that we learn how to upgrade iconic weapons, it’s time to find the components that do most of the work. The most important way to do this is to loot. So do not forget to loot the bad guys you kill.

Another way is to disassemble items such as weapons and clothing in your inventory that you do not prefer very much. Besides that, loot boxes are a crucial means to obtain components. So, when you come across these types of boxes, don’t ignore them; there could be valuable things inside.
