Issac Standing in a Dusty Room in Dead Space Remake
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

As players explore the harrowing ruins of the Ishimura in the Dead Space Remake, they will eventually encounter Doors, Crates, or Lockers that require a specific level of Security Clearance. As one would expect, the doorways and lootable containers contain rooms and items that will doubtless assist and progress Isaac in his endeavor to survive the monstrosities aboard the ship. However, without an upgraded Security Clearance, players will not be able to access the locked content. Fortunately, increasing one’s level of clearance in the Ishimura is not as difficult as one might think.

To upgrade Isaac’s Security Clearance in the Dead Space Remake, all players need to do is progress through the main campaign, as the upgrades will be given to the protagonist without fail. In other words, gaining access to the locked areas and containers regarding clearance requirements will eventually become available as players progress through the story.

For those curious about the exact points in the story when Security Clearance Level upgrades become available, here are the events that need to occur:

Level Chapter and Event
Security Clearance Level 1
  • During Chapter 2: Intensive Care, players will receive Security Clearance Level 1 after finding the Captain’s Rig in the Morgue of the Medical Deck and talking with Hammond over comms.
Security Clearance Level 2
  • During Chapter 4: Obliteration Imminent of the story in the Dead Space Remake, players will receive Security Clearance Level 2 when encountering Hammond in the Captain’s Nest.
Security Clearance Level 3
  • During Chapter 7: Into the Void of the story in the Dead Space Remake, players will receive Security Clearance Level 3 by finding Mining Supervisor Dallas’ Rig on the Mining Deck of the Ishimura.

Once players receive an upgrade for their Security Clearance, they will need to backtrack to previous areas to unlock the containers or rooms that were inaccessible. If players are struggling to find the locations they visited previously, they can view their in-game map, which will display the doorways or containers requiring a Security Clearance Level. Players can revisit areas whenever they like, as the clearance level will not be removed once obtained.

The Dead Space Remake is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
