Starfield is an expansive game that takes place within the extensive vacuum of space. If you aren’t familiar with space, it is incredibly dark and, according to this game, is filled with terrors and optimism. A lot of times, you will need to help of a flashlight to be able to get through dark areas and find hidden items. If you’re still trying to find out how the flashlight works in Starfield, then we’ve got you. Keep reading on to find out how to use the flashlight in Starfield whether you’re playing the standard edition or the premium edition of the game or it’s DLC.

Both the flashlight and the Hand Scanner in Starfield have the same button. If you want to use either the Hand Scanner or the flashlight, you will need to press the LB button in your controller or the F key on your keyboard. If you are unfamiliar with the Xbox controller and are using a PlayStation controller to play the game on your PC, then the button you’ll want to press is L1 button on your controller. You will need to hold this button down until it has been toggled either on or off. After doing this a few times, you’ll find that you’ll be using the flashlight without thinking about it as you travel through perilous planetary landscapes.

When to Use Flashlight in Starfield

You’ll also want to be careful about when you want to use your flashlight. If you turn it on and point it in the direction of an enemy, you’ll give away your location and prompt them to attack you. Of course, as we explained earlier, you’ll know exactly when and where it will be appropriate for you to turn on your flashlight. It also won’t really make sense to use it in scenarios where there is more than enough light to see without it. At that point, you’ll want to focus on stealthily getting your way past enemies or finding ways to jump in guns blazing when the time comes for a little bit of firepower.

So long as you’re aware of your surroundings and aren’t playing recklessly, then you shouldn’t have any issues getting around and using your flashlight. Considering that, that’s all you need to know about how to use flashlight in Starfield.
