There’s no coming back from this one.

If there was any doubt about how gritty and real Ready or Not aims to be, knowing how to use the secret command will clear up any doubt. This command is linked to The Devil, one of the rarest achievements in the game. Even though the process to get this command and its achievement is simple, it’s not one that most players would stumble upon on their own. Like Escape from Tarkov, Ready or Not takes no shortcuts to prove how hardcore it is. Whether you want to know how to use the secret command in Ready or Not to avoid it or make use of it yourself, here’s everything you need to know about the process.

Ready or Not puts the player in charge of a SWAT team, defusing various high-tension scenarios. It’s a game that puts gritty realism above all else, so it’s no surprise that things sometimes take a dark turn. To use the secret command and unlock The Devil achievement, you’ll need to kill an innocent person under specific circumstances. Doing so unlocks the secret “Kill Me” command which sends your squadmates after you. There appear to be a couple of ways to trigger this command, but here’s the easiest method:

  • Command your squadmates to “Hold” their position
  • Make sure you are out of your squad’s line of sight so they can’t see what you’re doing
  • Restrain a civilian
  • Kill that civilian out
  • Open the command menu, and the “Kill Me” secret command will appear

Killing an innocent person in this manner will prevent you from issuing any commands except the secret command. Once you give your squad the secret command, they will kill you on sight. This appears to be the game’s method to rein in otherwise bloodthirsty players. Unlocking the secret command pretty much guarantees you’ll fail whatever mission you’re on, so be careful. Note that the game must believe you killed your defenseless target intentionally for the secret command to register, hence the need for restraints. You might want to wear a balaclava to hide your face from the shame after this one, but at least you’ll have completed The Devil achievement in Ready or Not.

Ready or Not is available for PC.
