HoYoverse is continuing its “drip marketing” trend for Honkai Star Rail, revealing future playable characters we can expect in a couple of months. One of these characters stems from a shocking twist in Honkai Star Rail‘s recent Version 2.1 Trailblaze Mission, which may delight some players and disappoint others. Warning: Major spoilers for the most recent story quest if you haven’t already completed it.

Honkai Star Rail’s Firefly Shakes Up the Story

For those who religiously play the Honkai Star Rail story, you’ll remember Firefly, a mysterious yet bubbly character who led the protagonist around Penacony. As the story progressed, Firefly was unfortunately killed following a fatal stab wound from a Memory Zone Meme “Something Unto Death” monster. It was accepted that Firefly had met her end until the end of the most recent story quest, where it was revealed that Firefly was alive.

Not only is Firefly alive, but it’s also revealed that Firefly occupies the body of the mecha character we knew previously as Sam. Sam was a unique concept and once thought to be a playable character himself, as Honkai Star Rail doesn’t have any non-human playable characters so far despite its sci-fi setting. Many fans are pleased Firefly is not only back but playable as well, as she’ll presumably pilot Sam in battle as indicated by her promotional art. (Unfortunately, there are also those excited about Sam who aren’t so happy that he’s not technically playable.)

Firefly’s survival in the story also suggests that other characters who were killed so far, Robin and Sunday, are alive. Presumably, death in Penacony is not permanent, as Penacony is a dream world. We’ll see how this all resolves once the Penacony story concludes shortly. For now, if you’re a huge Firefly fan, it’s time to save those Stellar Jades. Firefly will be a 5-star Fire Destruction character, so she’ll be a good option for those who are in need of a Fire DPS.
