Hulu Cancels Planned Live-Action Ghost Rider Series

Back in May, it was announced that Hulu would be adapting a Ghost Rider live-action series with the Robbie Reyes version of the character as the main anti-hero. Unfortunately, the proposed series will not be moving forward at Hulu due to creative differences with the Ghost Rider team.

This is according to Deadline, who also report that Helstrom, another Marvel series that was announced alongside Ghost Rider, is still moving forward at the streaming service.

Ghost Rider

The series was set to star Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes, who previously played Reyes in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. He’s probably best known for his role as Ghost Rider in Agents of SHIELD and you can see him in the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate film as the new Terminator.

It’s interesting to see that this particular series was canceled due to creative differences. There have been rumors circling around the internet that this is because Marvel boss Kevin Feige wants to use the Ghost Rider character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, it’s important to note that these are just rumors at this time and Marvel hasn’t announced or even hinted at the character joining the MCU.

Other than the Robbie Reyes version of the character, the last time we saw Ghost Rider was in those horrendous Nicolas Cage films. The first of which was released back in 2007 and saw Cage introduced as Johnny Blaze, the most recognizable incarnation of the anti-hero. Its sequel, which also starred Idris Elba (Between this and Cats, I’m not sure he has the best judgment when it comes to selecting good film opportunities), released in 2011.

What are your thoughts on Hulu canceling this proposed Marvel series? Would you want to see Ghost Rider join the MCU? If so, which version of the character would you like to see?
