Hulu and Marvel television are partnering up to produce four adult animated television series. These will include Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler. The four characters will team up in a special called The Offenders, clearly a play on The Defenders which featured Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil.
Marvel’s head of TV, Jeph Loeb, will be the executive producer for each project. Since Disney owns Marvel, once the Fox-Disney merger is complete Disney will become a majority shareholder in Hulu.
Howard the Duck will be written and executive produced by Kevin Smith and Dave Willis. Smith is known for Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Smith has also written for Marvel comics in the past, working for big characters such as Daredevil and Spider-Man. Willis co-created Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies for Adult Swim. The story of Howard the Duck follows him trapped in a different world and trying to return home with the help of friend Beverly. All while avoiding the evil Dr. Bong.
M.O.D.O.K. is written and executive produced by Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt. Blum is known for Community and American Dad. Oswalt is known for A.P. Bio, Happy!, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. The acronym stands for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. The story centers around a supervillain with a large head and small body that struggles to balance his evil organization and family.
Hit-Monkey is written and executive produced by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, the team from Blades of Glory and Office Christmas Party. The story follows a wronged Japanese snow monkey who is mentored by the ghost of an American assassin as he takes on the Tokyo underworld.
Marvel’s Tigra and Dazzler is written and executive produced by Erica Rivinoja and Chelsea Handler. Rivinoja is known for her work on Girls Trip, The Last Man on Earth, South Park, and Grounded for Life. Handler is known for E! and Chelsea Lately.
