Hulu is reviving Hellraiser, and we have a trailer (seen below) to set up the premise while giving us a look at the new Pinhead and Cenobites. The reimagined, modern take is directed by David Bruckner (The Night House) and written by previous collaborators on The Night House, Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. The film will release on October 7 on the streaming platform.
The Hellraiser film from Hulu starts with the introduction of the iconic Puzzle Box. As we see the violence it unleashes, we see the story that follows a woman who possesses the box. Unknowingly of its power, she solves it and unleashes Pinhead and the Cenobites. The supernatural entities from another dimension then cause all sorts of bloody and gory chaos.
Hulu delivers a violent, puzzle-filled Hellraiser trailer
Fans of the original Clive Barker films (who produces the Hulu reboot of Hellraiser) will notice some major differences. Most noticeable are the designs and direction of Pinhead and the Cenobites, which we get plenty of views of throughout our official look at the film. Starring as the woman twist of Pinhead is Jamie Clayton (The L Word: Generation Q). The film aims to be “loyal” while being a modern evolution of the franchise. Starring along Clayton will be Goran Visnjic (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Hiam Abbass (Succession), Odessa A’zion (Grand Army), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), and Drew Starkey (Outer Banks).
The original film was released in 1987 and was followed by its sequels Hellbound (1988), Hell on Earth (1982), Bloodline (1996), Inferno (2000), Hellseeker (2002), Deader (2005), Hellworld (2005), Revelations (2011), and Judgment (2018). The Hulu reboot of Hellraiser may have a chance to revive the franchise that has continuously delivered sequels that were not well received. Due to Bruckner’s The Night House, Netflix’s The Ritual, and having a segment in V/H/S, he has the chops to possibly deliver something to satisfy fans.
