A video shared on Reddit appears to show a masked man climbing a lamppost in California before using bolt cutters to remove a Flock camera mounted above the street. The brief clip quickly caught viewers’ attention, with many praising the unidentified individual and making the same joke as the footage spread online.

The incident unfolds in broad daylight as traffic and pedestrians pass by. Wearing a black mask and dark blue baggy jeans, the unidentified individual climbs onto a traffic sign before using bolt cutters to cut down a Flock camera and remove it from the lamppost. Text overlaid on the video reads: “Taking out a Flock camera broad day in San Francisco.”

The clip comes as opposition to Flock cameras has continued to grow in California and across the country. While supporters say the automated license plate readers are valuable tools for solving crimes, critics argue they enable mass surveillance and raise serious privacy concerns. The debate has fueled protests, legal challenges and, in some cases, vandalism targeting the cameras.

Social Media Reactions

Many Reddit users responded with humor, repeatedly pretending they had not seen the masked man at all by referencing the long-running John Cena meme. One commenter joked, “I think my phone’s broken, looks like you just posted a video of John Cena drinking tea,” while another added, “He was with me that day.”

Others continued the joke by insisting there was nothing to report. “Remember folks, if you see someone taking down a Flock camera. No You Didn’t,” one person wrote. Another commented, “I saw nobody. Amazing how that camera fell down randomly. Flock should do a better job installing these. They might fall and hurt someone,” while someone else quipped, “Crazy how they just fall and break on their own.”

Many also praised the unidentified individual. “Let the person do the lord’s work in peace,” one commenter wrote, while another declared, “He’s not the hero Gotham wants, he’s the hero Gotham needs.”

The clip has become another example of the growing debate surrounding Flock cameras and automated license plate readers. While supporters argue the technology is an important tool for helping law enforcement investigate crimes, critics continue to raise concerns about privacy and surveillance, ensuring videos like this are likely to keep fueling discussion well beyond social media.
