The John Wick spinoff Ballerina was already set to be led by a newcomer to the franchise, Ana de Armas, and now she will be accompanied by veteran Ian McShane as he reprises his role as Winston, The Hollywood Reporter has reported. The film will see the expansion of the assassin universe.
How Ian McShane fits into the John Wick spinoff is unknown. Winston is the owner of The Continental, a popular hotel for assassins in New York City. It is a hub for people to go about peacefully, as the number one rule is to not conduct business on the grounds of the hotel (even though it does not stop the bloodshed on said grounds).
Ana de Armas, in the John Wick film, is a woman seeking revenge on the hitman who killed her family. Production began on Monday (November 7). It will be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld), with the writer of the main installments, Shay Hatten, returning to pen this next entry.
Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski will produce.
Ian McShane and Ana de Armas lead John Wick spinoff Ballerina
The John Wick franchise has seen Ian McShane become an important part of the world. He has been in every movie, with him being set to return to Chapter 4 next year. Although he won’t star in it as it is a prequel, we will see a younger version of Winston in The Continental limited series. That will star Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant) as the young Winston with Mel Gibson, Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction), Katie McGrath (Supergirl), and Jessica Allain (Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It will hit Peacock sometime in 2023.
The plan for the main films will be to have five entries of Keanu Reeves slaying anyone who stands in his way. Chapter 4 releases in theaters on March 23, 2023.
