Back in mid-August, an ICE agent was arrested for a DUI case (driving under the influence) in Monroe County, Florida. One of the biggest concerns at the time was that he was driving recklessly with two of his kids in the car. With that said, recently released bodycam footage of the arrest has revealed a new angle where the ICE agent even tried to wiggle out of the arrest by racially profiling one of the police officers who arrested him.
42-year-old Scott Deiseroth is the ICE agent in question. He had a blood-alcohol level of .17 when he decided to drive his pickup truck with his two kids in the back. Deiseroth was arrested, but not without resistance, as he tried to play all his cards to avoid the arrest, such as racially profiling a Black cop, using his position as a “law enforcement officer,” and even trying to elicit empathy by claiming he’s going through a divorce. Here’s the footage courtesy of The Crimepiece, skip to the 18:46 mark for the racial profiling:
Deiseroth was still somewhat compliant and docile until he heard one of the police officers speak with a different English accent, and proceeded to ask, “Are you Haitian?” Thankfully, the Monroe County police officers didn’t allow Deiseroth to derail the arrest even though he kept trying to racially profile the other officer. In the end, Deiseroth was still arrested despite pleading and even reiterating that, “I’m [expletive] law enforcement, dude!”
As for Deiseroth’s kids, his ex-wife came over to pick them up. At the time of writing, the case is still pending. It’s also not clear how the arrest has affected Deiseroth’s role and employment in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Department of Homeland Security.
People Online Have Mocked the Arrested ICE agent
Needless to say, the bodycam footage of Deiseroth’s arrest quickly went viral, with many people online mocking his predicament and perhaps his sense of entitlement. One of the commenters on the video where the footage was uploaded even pointed out the irony, “‘I just wanna go home guys. ‘Don’t separate me from my family.’ These phrases are golden coming from an ICE agent.”
“Dude behaves just like you’d expect an ICE ‘agent’ to behave,” according to another commenter. Meanwhile, other people appear to be celebrating how an ICE agent was finally subjected to the wrong end of law enforcement, “An ice agent scared to get in a police car and be held accountable.”
It’s not the first time a federal officer has been arrested for DUI or driving recklessly with kids in the back. Critics were nevertheless worried for the other cop, whom Deiseroth thought was Haitian or an illegal alien. Because just recently, ICE detained a police officer in Chicago for being in the US illegally, proving that even other law enforcement departments are not safe from them.
