ICE agents have continued to crack down on illegal immigrants countrywide following President Donald Trump’s orders. This has triggered numerous anti-ICE protests around the country, some of which have resulted in dangerous accidents. A video posted on Reddit showed the chaotic scene that broke out in Oregon at night.
Protesters and ICE agents appeared to be having a face-off on the streets of Portland when the officers fired less lethal ammunition at buildings on the opposite side of the street. In the caption, the poster wrote that the officers fired with the “accuracy of storm troopers.”
The agents threw several tear gas canisters in the direction of the protesters, with the smoke filling up the area, rising to people’s windows. Protesters could be heard shouting, “Close your window! People down! Close your window!” Amid the chaos, another thrown canister ignited a fire in front of a building. The building served as the location of an unnamed small business.
“You will burn a small business because of your fire,” one protester challenged. As the fire grew, the crowd gathered around a parked car, trying to prevent it from spreading to the vehicle.
Users on social media condemned the actions of the ICE agents. One wrote, “Pretty sure they are there to set the whole country ablaze, so probably not going to be rushing to put out this fire.” Another replied, “I think your assumption is spot on, these idiots would set their own mothers on fire if it got them a bonus.”
Someone likened the scene to something out of “Gotham City” in a Batman movie. Another person commented that the ICE agents may have had the accuracy of stormtroopers, but they “only wish to have the intelligence of stormtroopers.”
One person penned down a poetic piece that read, “We didn’t start the fire. It was always burning, since the world’s been turning. We didn’t start the fire. No, we didn’t light it, but we tried to fight it.”
It seems ICE agents in Portland have a penchant for getting super aggressive with protesters.
Meanwhile, an incident occurred last month when protesters and law enforcement officers went head-to-head in combat. The incident happened during an anti-ICE protest. It started when an armed officer grabbed a protester’s shirt. Another protester tried to intervene and stage a rescue, but this resulted in chaos.
During the ruckus, one rioter used a wooden board to hit an officer, and the officer attempted to retaliate, resulting in more chaos. More police officers had to intervene, using smoke canisters and less lethal guns to fire at the protesters in an attempt to ward them off. Protesters in the crowd could be heard yelling, “Leave us alone! F*ck you!”
An officer even went as far as to drag a protester to the ground, preventing other people from coming to the protester’s rescue.
