The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) is now coming up with creative ways to target suspects. A video showed the moment an ICE agent posing as a construction worker tried to lure his suspect out of his vehicle in New York. The Instagram post was captioned, “ICE Disguised as Construction Workers. This is not just dangerous—it’s deception.”
The immigrant was locked in his car with the window up. However, the officer continued to harass him, asking him to come out of the vehicle so they could “talk.” The officer was dressed in a full construction worker’s outfit with an orange protective helmet and a reflective vest. His nose and mouth were also covered up.
When asked, the fake construction worker said that he was from a “law agency.” However, when the immigrant pushed for more details, he declined to provide a reasonable answer.
“What agency are you with?” the immigrant asked. “It’s none of your business,” the ICE agent responded.
The immigrant insisted that his knowledge of the fake construction worker’s agency was his business because he is a legal citizen. Despite his efforts, the officer refused to provide any more information. Instead, the ICE agent gave him two options: either step out of the vehicle and work it out with him or leave with his colleagues, who were on their way.
The video of the incident sparked outrage online, and several users have called for protective measures to be taken against ICE agents. One user wrote, “Time to go vigilante on these scumbags,” and another replied, “Good for this guy for standing up for himself. These masked goons have no place in the U.S.”
An Instagram user opined that ICE agents may soon get unintentionally hurt should they continue to refuse to reveal their real identities. The user wrote, “Anyone else wondering how long before a federal agent refusing to ID gets shot in self-defense by someone thinking they’re being robbed or kidnapped?”
Another user shared the same thought with the comment, “An ICE agent will be assaulted using this method. And the person defending themselves will be charged for protecting themselves against an armed robber.”
One person called the incident “sickening” and added, “…Bad people given the opportunity will turn on their neighbors. Mostly angry white men.”
Other users assessed the ICE agent’s dressing, pointing out that he obviously looked like a fake construction worker because his clothes looked new and unscuffed. A user wrote, “You definitely tell a fake construction worker from a real one. The fake one has all his clothes appear to be work attire, but they are all clean and new looking.”
