Families are becoming increasingly terrified for themselves and their children as ICE operations increase in major U.S. cities. Especially for immigrant families, making the decision to merely go outside can cost them everything. It’s these things that so many of us take for granted. In Mississippi, even a young teenager fell victim to ICE when her sister was pulled over. What they did just because she didn’t speak English should anger everybody.
Jessie (@jessier951) shared a TikTok video showing what happened when she was pulled over by ICE with her teenage sister in the vehicle. In the video, Jessie says, “ICE took her without even asking her. Literally.” You can see Jessie’s teen sister with her hands handcuffed in front of her. You can tell that she’s feeling fearful and wondering why they would do this to her.
As Jessie says, ICE took her and handcuffed her without even asking for any of her documents even though she’s a minor. Apparently, their reasoning was because of her inability to speak English to them. Jessie says that her sister is a United States citizen, so this treatment is outright unjust.
Jessie explains in her comments that she and her sister were stopped by the unmarked vehicle, which ended up having immigration officials inside. ICE was searching for somebody with their license plate number but Jessie and her sister were inside a rental, so it wasn’t them. As Jessie was answering their questions and on the phone with her attorney, she claims that ICE “proceeded to open the passenger-side door and forcibly remove my sister from the vehicle.” When her sister was let out of her handcuffs, she was able to get her documents and prove her citizenship. However, Jessie said the agents were cruel and “snatched the documents from her hand.” It’s clear that they were angry they wouldn’t be making an arrest that day.
One commenter asked, “And they’re putting her in HANDCUFFS???? We are not mad enough.” Another person suggested, “Get her registered to vote before November. And yourself too. Elections have consequences and this is the consequence of the last election.” No part of this is acceptable, especially when they’re literally involving children in their terroristic acts.
