These days, ICE agents have become bolder, often breaking various laws and ignoring due process entirely. One of the most common things they like to disregard is the requirement to have a warrant before entering private property. Most of the time, they simply barge in like criminals and arrest anyone they want. If they can’t get inside, they often wait outside and jump on their targets when they step out. It’s safe to say they have become a group of menaces. However, recently in Chicago, Illinois, a group of ICE agents accompanied by Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino failed in their attempt to enter a laundromat.
The owner was luckily on the premises when the ICE agents arrived and quickly locked the door to his business, preventing them from coming in without a warrant. These agents likely thought they would have an easy time just grabbing anyone they deemed suspicious or not white enough to fulfill their quota. Fortunately, the owner of the Chicago laundromat refused to let the ICE agents threaten his customers and locked them out instead.
In a video recorded by a customer, you can see the group of officers standing outside awkwardly in their tactical gear and weapons. They seemed to know they couldn’t get in at all, and unwilling to rip off their mask of being so-called agents of justice by breaking into the building, they decided to pull back. As the cameraman followed the ICE agents walking away, you could see the other laundromat customers standing anxiously inside as they watched the agents move away. Some also recorded the incident on their phones. There seemed to be quite a lot of them, as you could see many agents just walking around even until the end of the video.
Redditors who saw the video were more than happy to witness these ICE agents not getting what they wanted. They applauded the Chicago laundromat owner for standing up against these agents. Others mocked the ICE agents for being forced to just stand there, locked out of the laundromat and unable to do anything.
“HA! Typical that they don’t even think they need a warrant and can just march in until, that is, the owner or someone actually locks the door. Was the Gestapo as clueless as these wannabes?” some users commented, criticizing the agents and pointing out how unnecessary and over-the-top their weapons and gear looked. “Those idiots look like they’re going to war. Who are they going to war with? People just washing their clothes? So glad the owner was there to lock the door. They most likely didn’t have a warrant. Not that it hasn’t stopped them before,” another user wrote.
