Only several weeks in, and ICE has already been starting horrific problems for the people of Minnesota. From several incidents of violence to people being forcefully removed from their homes, the nightmare is real for too many families. In a recent TikTok video, a woman angrily explains that ICE targeted her fiancé for one reason: The color of his skin. Though this specific case ended well for him, it could’ve easily taken a turn for the worse.
Becca (@becca_bby2) shared a video outlining what happened to her fiancé when he was confronted by ICE agents. Her smiling fiancé was followed to his workplace in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, by a large group of officials. They brought him outside and you can see them checking his documents as he stands by his vehicle. As Becca says, they’re “harassing people at their place of work, tryna get them to open the door to get into the building.”
In the video, her fiancé hands his paperwork to the group of five men. Apparently, they tried to give him a little trouble and told him they couldn’t find his number. However, in the end, they figure it out and relent. You can see from their expressions that they look almost disappointed by the fact that they couldn’t make an arrest. Imagine being upset that somebody proved he was a legal citizen. Just the fact that people need to do this in America, the supposed land of the free, is wrong on so many levels.
In the end, Becca’s fiancé was able to wander away from the scene without issue. He walks toward the camera with a big smile on his face. But for so many immigrants living in America, they don’t get to say the same. ICE has inserted themselves into so many facets of life and people are afraid to go out in these major cities because of it. Instead, they have to live in fear that they could be taken from their families at any given time.
One commenter happily stated upon seeing Becca’s video, “Him smiling is everything!” However, another commenter tried to explain, “See how easy that was! Comply and walk away. People look he didn’t attack them and he’s going home! Take lessons people!” Another commenter challenged them, “Take a lesson? Plenty of CITIZENS that are wrongfully detained and aren’t even given the chance to show them documentation. Staying calm and complying doesn’t work with these [expletive].” There have been so many instances in the news regarding ICE agents who took their anger and violence out on people before they even had a chance to react. It’s unsettling, to say the least. And it doesn’t have to be this way – but hey, that’s Trump’s America.
