Right now, the skepticism levels of everyone in the country are quite high, and that’s putting it mildly. Naturally, when we see law enforcement doing anything, it’s normal that we don’t trust it right away. But there’s no need to fret. Well, at least in most cases. Recently, people have spotted the Cool Treats van in Phoenix, Arizona. And while some of them have jokingly said it is a cover-up for ICE, it isn’t. It’s an actual community outreach program that is safe to approach, especially during this time of the year.
The original picture comes from Redditor ZiolkowskiTJ, who shared it on the Phoenix subreddit. In the picture, you can see the Cool Treats van of the Phoenix Police Department. The OP jokingly said, “It’s a Trap! Do they really think we would be so stupid to fall for this?” Now, with how things are around the country, some might actually feel it is a van housing undercover ICE agents, but this time it isn’t. Fortunately, the majority of citizens in Phoenix know about this iconic vehicle and quickly shared information so that people don’t get scared.
“Trying to renew their community outreach program again. I’m for it, cops that participate in building positive relationships with communities are less likely to fear for their lives and less likely to shoot everything that breathes in their direction.” – GreatMacGuffin via Reddit.
The above statement is quite accurate, as it is always great to see authorities interacting with the community. Many organizations have been on shaky ground and losing trust left and right. So, seeing the Phoenix PD hold such a cool (no pun intended) program to deliver treats is always welcome.
Still, people will always be on two opposite sides regarding law enforcement officers. Some see this as a positive thing that makes citizens trust police officers more. Others will run away as far as they can from them. Ultimately, they are just giving ice cream away, or rather, Otter Pops, so I guess there’s no harm in that.
