A small business owner in Chicago, Illinois, recently shared a run-in she had with a disgruntled customer. However, the situation was made so much worse after her followers realized what was really going on. The woman, who owns a bridal shop, was filming herself when the mother of one of her brides walked in nearly an hour before her scheduled appointment. What happened next left many on the internet furious.
In the video, the Illinois shop owner is seen setting up her phone to record a TikTok, and then gets surprised when a woman named Barb comes in 40 minutes early for her appointment. Barb was supposed to be trying on and picking out her mother’s wedding dress. However, she had her own ideas. Barb brought a dress with her, and stunned the shop owner when she pulled out a vintage wedding dress that previously belonged to a friend of hers.
Barb explained that she wanted to wear the dress to her daughter’s wedding after it was altered into a shorter version. However, the shop owner was completely shocked by her request and revealed that she could not in good conscience fulfill her request.
โThatโs a wedding dress,โ the business owner stated. However, she was met with resistance when the mother claimed the dress wouldn’t look like a wedding dress after alterations. โBut thatโs white,โ the owner debated. โIโm trying to be respectful of the brideโs wishes. Illinois Shop Owner Puts Mother Of Bride In Her Place
The owner went on to try to elaborate, by revealing that the bride wanted her mother to wear some sort of purple-like tone, such as plum or amethyst. However, she had the freedom to choose her own style of dress. Sadly, Barb wasn’t interested in that option. Instead, she became more difficult. She claimed her money was “no good” at the shop and even knocked over a container of pens off the desk.
โHave you thought this through?โ she asked. โHowโs sheโs going to react?Youโre daughter has spent hundreds, now thousands of dollars in my store. I have a responsibility to her,โ the dress shop owner stated.
Finally, the owner told Barb that their interaction was over and that she would be calling the bride to let her know what happened.

Hopefully, the Illinois shop owner can move on from the terrible experience, and the bride’s mother doesn’t ruin the day for her.
