Even though abortion is healthcare, so many healthcare providers tend to stray away from it. They push their own personal opinions on patients and, in the end, it sometimes leads to adverse results. An Illinois woman recently found some doctors only care about their own self-interests when it comes to abortion-related issues. Now, she will never be able to conceive naturally as a result of an OBGYN’s own personal thoughts.
TikToker CatLife669 (Cat) started off her video by saying that she was “denied an abortion” in early October. As a result, she states she’s “no longer fertile” and “cannot have kids naturally anymore.” She said she would have to go through IVF if she chooses to conceive because the denial of the abortion cost her a second fallopian tube.
Cat went to an Illinois hospital when she was recently experiencing bleeding and cramping. She explained to the staff she had an ectopic pregnancy in the past. That’s what cost her a right fallopian tube. After a series of tests, they discovered she was, indeed, having an ectopic pregnancy once again. Her doctor, a female OBGYN, told her she caught it early and could see her for an appointment the following day. This didn’t seem right to Cat. It was a life-threatening pregnancy, after all.
When Cat attends the next-day appointment, she’s shocked by what she’s told. The doctor won’t give her an abortion because there’s a “1% chance that I have a viable pregnancy.” She goes on to say she “can’t intervene because she cannot in good faith do that and she does not perform abortions.”
Cat left the office hysterical, knowing anything could happen to her. She and her husband go to a hospital but they don’t have an obstetrics division so they need to go to another hospital even further away. At the second hospital, the doctor demands to know why they didn’t give her Methotrexate, preventing the pregnancy from progressing. Luckily, she did get the medication she needed, but too much time had passed.
“With ectopic pregnancy, every single second counts,” Cat said, after finding out she’d need surgery to have her left fallopian tube removed. Now, she lost her chance to conceive naturally. And for what? A doctor who literally could have intervened but let their personal feelings about abortions get in the way.
“These republican OBGYNs doing this to women should be ashamed of themselves. I’m so sorry this happened,” one commenter stated.
“My sister in law is an ob-gyn, and an abortion provider. I don’t think you should be allowed to be any kind of Dr, especially an ob-gyn, if you are anti abortion. Abortions are a necessary part of reproductive health,” another person argued. It’s one thing to not have that training, and it’s another to deny someone the choice.
