An Illinois man was involved in a physical altercation outside a Community Resource Center on Chicago’s South Side. The incident happened near 71st Street and Jeffery Boulevard. The one-minute video shows several men pushing, grabbing, and fighting on the sidewalk.

The footage was posted by independent Chicago news account @Chicago_Goofies on October 7, 2026.

According to the account, the fight started after a man applied for a job at the center and was not hired. Its caption reads, “So apparently, this all started because he applied for a job there, didn’t get hired, and then got into a fight with the workers.”

The video does not show how the confrontation began. It also does not show police arriving or how the incident ended.

The footage opens outside the Community Resource Center. A man in a black hoodie and tan pants walks near the entrance while holding a bright orange or red object and slams it against the center’s door. After he runs away, many people come out of the building while shouting. The camera then shows a red barrier knocked over on the sidewalk.

The video then shifts to the sidewalk near a Check Changers and an ATM. Several men are involved in a physical scuffle. They push and grab each other as the confrontation moves along the sidewalk. Apparently, the job applicant did not run away completely and was waiting for everyone to start a fight.

The video ends with everyone still arguing and shouting. No weapons are clearly visible in the footage. The recording also does not show what happened before the fight. The poster’s claim about the rejected job applicant remains the main explanation provided for why the fight started.

A Citizen alert from October 6 also reported an altercation near the same 71st Street and Jeffery Boulevard intersection. That report described a man allegedly throwing a wooden plank at a group before being chased. It is unclear whether that incident is connected to the fight shown in this video.

Internet Reacts to Illinois Job Rejection Street Fight

The comments focused on the unusual job-rejection angle. “Weird way to do a follow-up letter, but OK,” one person wrote. Another commented, “He can’t possibly want a job that damn bad.” A third joked, “I’m sure that will help them reconsider.”

Others were curious about the circumstances. “Curious to know what type of job it was,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “Looks like they dodged a bullet.”

One person summed up their reaction with, “I swear Chicago isn’t a real place.”
