Passengers trying to get off a United Airlines flight were confronted with an unusual demand when a Black Illinois man walking through the cabin told them to prove they weren’t racist by letting Black passengers leave first. The brief encounter quickly drew online attention, where viewers debated both the man’s demand and the passengers who moved aside.
The roughly one-minute video was originally posted on Instagram before being reshared on X, where it drew a wave of critical reactions.
The roughly one-minute video was filmed inside a crowded plane. The clip was first posted by Instagram account @foreverband_lockedinking. It was later reshared on X by @AmiriKing, where it gained more attention and sparked backlash.
The video appears to show passengers getting off a United Airlines flight. A man walks down the aisle and shouts, “Prove you’re not racist and let all the black people off the plane first.”
The shaky footage shows passengers standing in a packed cabin and taking their bags from the overhead bins. The man walks toward the front of the plane while several passengers move out of his way. At one point, he says “Good” to those who seem to oblige.
Most passengers seem focused on collecting their belongings rather than confronting him. Several step aside as he continues down the aisle. He walks past rows of seated and standing passengers until he reaches the front of the plane. A flight attendant and other passengers are visible near the exit, along with United Airlines branding.
The short video does not show what happened before the man began making the demand or whether any additional confrontation occurred afterward. The location and date of the incident have also not been independently confirmed.
‘Wait Your Turn’: Viewers React to Plane Confrontation
The X repost attracted plenty of criticism, with commenters questioning both the man’s demand and why other passengers appeared willing to move aside. “I wouldn’t let him pass bc i see no race so his race is irrelevant. Wait your turn like everybody else bud,” one person wrote.
Another viewer took a different view of the passengers who stepped aside, arguing that avoiding a confrontation was probably the smarter move. “That’s called picking your Battles. Just let him go by because it’s not worth the hassle,” they wrote.
Others argued that treating the man differently because of his race would itself undermine the point he appeared to be making. “I’d be ‘being racist’ if I treated you different from anyone else,” one commenter wrote. Another simply said they would have told him to wait his turn.
The short clip doesn’t explain what prompted the man’s unusual demand. Most passengers appear to choose the path of least resistance, moving aside rather than turning an already crowded plane into an argument. Whether that proved anything about racism is another matter entirely.
