An Illinois family faced a frightening encounter with ICE agents after officers surrounded their car while a baby was inside. The family stayed in the vehicle as the agents questioned them, and the father repeatedly insisted they had the wrong person. His wife became increasingly distressed as she tried to convince the agents that the man in the car was not the person shown in the photograph.
The video shows the couple sitting inside the car, with the man behind the wheel, the woman in the passenger seat, and their baby in the back. The woman can be heard crying uncontrollably as she begs the agents not to take her husband.
“Please, no. He’s the only thing my baby and I have. Please, no,” she says in Spanish.
She repeatedly tells the agents that her husband is not the person they are looking for. “Please, brother. He’s not the one in the photo. He’s not,” she says. She also tells them that they are not bad people and that her husband only wants to work to support his family.
The man also tries to explain why he believes the agents have mistaken him for someone else. While showing his identification, he tells them, “I’m not the one in the photo, brother. I’m not.” He also says he has an immigration case in progress and appears to tell the agents that he cannot answer certain questions because of that ongoing process.
His wife continues pleading with the agents, telling them they have families and homes of their own. “You have families, friend. You have families. He is not the one,” she says. She then begins praying and repeatedly asks the agents to believe in God.
The agents eventually use a tool to shatter one of the car windows and open the door. Another agent approaches from the woman’s side and opens her door, hitting the camera in the process. The recording ends immediately afterward.
The video was shared on Instagram by @marielena0111, whose caption says the incident happened around 7:20 a.m. on September 25, 2026, near 56th Street and Racine Avenue in Chicago.
The account claims the family had a pending asylum case and that the man repeatedly told the agents he was not the person in their photograph. It also says the woman was detained and later released. The footage was later shared on X by @LongTimeHistory, where commenters took very different views of what happened. One commenter blamed the detention on alleged ICE quotas, writing, “The reason ICE detained him is because they have quotas. They don’t care if there’s legal paperwork or not. They just need numbers.”
Another commenter focused on the broader implications of the encounter, simply writing, “This is not how democracy works.” A third person expressed sympathy for the family, saying, “This breaks my fucking heart!! That poor family is traumatized and separated, for what?? All because we have a crazy *expletive* president who has unleashed a bunch of criminals on our streets!”
Other commenters defended the agents’ actions and argued that the couple should have complied. One wrote, “Are we supposed to feel bad? You can’t just sit in your car with the windows rolled up when dealing with law enforcement. If I got pulled over with my child in the back of the car and refused to roll down my window and talk to a cop the exact same thing would happen to me.” Another commenter took an even stronger position, writing, “Exactly what we voted for.
