Hate seems to be becoming the universal language, as a pastor in Illinois gave a sermon about thinking of attacking two random passersby because he didn’t feel right about them. A video posted on Reddit showed the pastor at a pulpit, leaning on it as he spoke. He opened by explaining that he was going out on a Saturday and was in a terrible mood. His wife noticed and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
As he tried to explain how he felt, he shifted his posture, smiled, and then told the congregation, “Okay, I’m going to be confessing my sin to you,” before proudly sharing his intrusive thoughts.
“I’m like look at those two losers, walking down at the center of the road there. I want to hit them with my truck and run them over and save the world from people like that.”
He proceeded to smile as he said he had to pull himself back together because that thought was horrible.
He added that the thought troubled him because the people had families. “And I’m just like, well, that’s horrible, that they have families, and I’m like, we need to make sure they don’t procreate anymore,” he said. Again, he reached out to the congregation, asking whether he was the only one who had such evil thoughts, suggesting it was human nature.
“But what didn’t I do? I didn’t run them over,” he proudly boadted, implying something inside him held him back. Netizens found the pastor’s remarks absurd and didn’t hold back in criticizing him, with many insinuating the losers were probably members of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Gaydar is going off mega time…..” someone wrote, insinuating he was a closeted homophobe. Another commenter wrote, “It’s so easy to hide behind labels like pastor, conservative, White etc. It’s a quick way to avoid thinking about who you really are.
It’s much simpler to embrace an identity based on those preexisting ‘templates.’” This Redditor slammed the pastor, writing:
“Wow. What a sick fuck. Not only does he want to kill people because of how they look, but he’s laughing while telling the story, and then thinks that most, if not all, of the people he’s talking to think the same thing. And he thinks he’s a good guy because he DIDN’T murder them.”
Without trying to hide feelings or thoughts, someone else wrote, “He’s not a pastor. He is an asshole using religion to scam people.” Another user asked, “Anyone else thinking the ‘two losers’ who set off that rage were an openly gay couple in love?”
Pointing out what they wished to see, another commenter wrote firmly, “imagine thinking that you’re Jesus’s homie and having such murderous hate in your heart for strangers.
Sometimes I hope that heaven and hell are real and that I’d get to see the faces of these people when they get rejected at the Pearly Gates and pulled down.” The church has since been identified as Calvary Chapel Church, located in Rockford, Illinois, and the preacher is Pastor Charlie Heffelfinger.
