The death of Charlie Kirk has given people and conservatives something else to bicker about. Naturally, far-right activists are using his death as an opportunity to dox others, revealing an anonymous person’s name and address. This is usually done to harass someone and, more often than not, to even get someone fired. In fact, an Illinois woman is sharing on TikTok how her indifference to Kirk’s death led to the loss of her job. That doesn’t sound like free speech to me.
TikTok user Cieria explained she made a post concerning Charlie Kirk’s death. “Charlie Kirk used his last words on earth to incite violence against trans people,” said the caption. That was one video, which she followed up with another stating she lost her job. Keep in mind, she wasn’t promoting it. She was just saying that, due to his hateful rhetoric, we don’t have to mourn if we don’t want to.
Cieria then opens up and says the work she did was dear to her because it was “nonprofit that taught reproductive health to LGBTQ youth and youth in foster care.” She felt at home there. Cieria said her job told her she wasn’t being fired for the comments about Charlie Kirk. She was fired because she was doxed by someone close to her. They posted her job and LinkedIn!
It’s totally fine to tell people to be careful about what they post online. Yes, the information can be seen by anyone and it can follow you. However, she stated an opinion close to her heart, having worked with LGBTQ+. In her position, she was expected to stand up for these youth and make them feel wanted in this harsh world.
“How can anyone expect the oppressed to mourn the oppressor?” one commenter asked. It’s a fair point! “I know this is easier said than done, but please WIPE YOUR TEARS!!! SUE! But this is exactly what they wanna see… Us emotionally, mentally, and physically defeated. You’re loved, qualified, and this will not be the end!!!” said another. Others helped Cieria with possible legal assistance but, as for her future, we may never know what comes of this.
