She’s not sorry

An Illinois woman slams ‘fatphobia’ and argues that all sizes deserve to live comfortably in the world. She argues that “fat people don’t owe you weight loss.” Her video has received mixed reactions with over 149,000 views, over 34,000 likes, and over 2,500 comments.

Furthermore, she argues that plus sizes should “be able to exist and live in a world that is comfortable.” By this, she means they shouldn’t have to ask for belt extenders and should be able to sit comfortably on a plane. The Illinois woman doesn’t feel that belief is controversial, and argues it comes down to simply being ‘fatphobic.’ She states, “I do not owe you feeling bad about my body.” She adds that she doesn’t feel bad about her body.

Part of the problem for her is that people “don’t want to address their fatphobia.” She argues that it’s them that need to self-reflect about what ‘fat people’ bother them so much. The Illinois woman claims, “Because of that myth, fat people are consistently denied access to healthcare.” But feels people don’t want to do anything to address fatphobia “because they are comfortable” benefiting from it. The video ends with her telling people to keep it out of her comment section, and stating, “I truly believe that people can’t fathom the fat existence.”

Mixed Reactions To Illinois Woman’s Comments

One calls out the double standards: “Plenty of skinny people have health conditions that my fat [expletive] doesn’t!” Another states, “I was at my unhealthiest when I was at my thinnest.” A third commenter argues that ‘health’ has nothing to do with it: “ALCOHOLIC SMOKER HERE. I’ve never been treated as bad as when I was OBESE.”

However, some are concerned that the Illinois woman will receive hate in the comments. One states, “This comment section is acting like you just declared war.” Others argue that ‘being fat is unhealthy,’ and that she is wrong. One states, “As somebody who is overweight, fat IS unhealthy!” Another states, “Girl, I was with you until you said being fat isn’t unhealthy.”
