While ICE is currently the main focus of many people, unacceptable police brutality still exists in America. One Indiana teen unfortunately met a very aggressive IMPD officer during his drive. The teen already suspected that things would get dangerous and had his phone recording the incident. In it, you could see him staring quite restlessly at the camera as the IMPD officers walked toward the driver.
The officer accused the Indiana teen of having drugs in his car because of the smell coming out of the vehicle. The police pulled open his car door and dragged him out, all the while threatening to kill him. His friends, who were sitting in the back, were also told to get outside the car. You could hear the teens shouting angrily at the police officers for threatening to kill them just because of a traffic stop.
The IMPD has also made a response to the viral video, stating that such a thing wasn’t acceptable and that they were currently investigating the incident. They also said that the police officers were there because there were reports of teens holding firearms during the student protest ongoing in the area. They then stopped the three teens in the video because IMPD officers believed that the Indiana teens were in possession of weapons. Even so, the IMPD still admitted that the language used by the officers wasn’t appropriate.
The internet was outraged by what happened to the Indiana teens. Many argued that this was a blatant case of racism. “Issue was driving while Black,” one user wrote. Others used this chance to express criticism toward police in America in general, finding all of them to be deplorable and corrupt. “Another case where taxpayers will have to pay for this dude’s complete lack of control and critical thinking. He will get a paid vacation and promotion at a different precinct. When will this end? Without real consequences, we just enable this to continue. It’s ridiculous,” one Redditor wrote.
Other users who heard the statement released by IMPD weren’t fully convinced. Some argued that this could just be lies they said to protect their fellow Indiana officers. “I pray this is not a way to deflect from what the officer/officers said to the young men despite the fact. Let’s see how long it takes for the officer/officers’ names to be released to the public, including their consequences for how they inappropriately handled themselves as police officers!” one commenter wrote.
