Shoveling snow and clearing ice from your own home is physically demanding enough, but what if you were forced to also do it at work or school? Obviously, it’d be a bad look for the organization once word got out. However, the infamous Indiana University President Pamela Whitten appears to care less about what people think of her as she demanded students start clearing sidewalks and walkways themselves, without compensation. As if people didn’t like her already from the “sniper” incident back during 2024’s pro-Palestinian protests, now she’s given students another reason to despise her even more.
According to “President Pam ‘Sniper’ Whitten,” telling students to clear sidewalks and entry points themselves is actually just another way for staff to “support them across campus.” Posting the news to Reddit, an online user explained that Indiana University staff did very little to clear snow and ice over the past week. Since their incompetence can’t keep the school clean and safe to navigate, they’re pushing the responsibility onto students.
“The audacity of colleges always gets me,” remarks a commenter. “Yes, broke college student? The one we charge $100,000 for a bachelor’s? Pick a shovel up, peasant. It’s snowing.” Another individual pointed out how students will often go tens of thousands of dollars into debt, and now they’re being forced to do physical labor while President Whitten receives her $900,000-a-year salary.
“How is she so stupid to not know this will be horrible PR?” questioned a user. “I bet Pam isn’t grabbing a shovel,” snarkily added one commenter. “No, but she will grab a sniper or two…” joked a response.
Several Redditors pointed out how this sort of mismanagement and mistreatment of students isn’t just exclusive to Indiana University, but to the country as a whole. “Why are our schools such a joke? It’s like everyone is just bleeding the younger generations dry,” one person remarks.
If anyone gets injured as a result of the snow clearing or the lack thereof, there’s bound to be some sort of lawsuit or repercussion that the President will have to prepare for.
