ICE is in the news yet again, and every time they come up, it’s often for something unseemly or crossing a line or three. Across the nation, no matter where people live, immigrants are being tracked down and rounded up with little care for who gets hurt or caught in their net. A massive crackdown in a San Antonio court led to families being detained and even children getting zip-tied thanks to ICE intervention.
In a post by user CantStop Poppin in the EyesOnICE Reddit thread, a wild scene played out in Texas, in a San Antonio immigration court, that had ICE show up and start detaining and arresting immigrant families who initially showed up for a court date. It’s essentially a catch-22, as new immigrant families have to show up to court to have hearings to be in the country legally, but they are getting arrested by ICE when they show up. This has led many folks to hypothesize ways to combat this, and virtual hearings seem like a possibility, according to people commenting on the news.
At the immigration court, at least three children were zip tied, and it was captured by an immigration attorney named Priscilla Olivarez according to MySanAntonio news. Another attorney named Guillermo Hernandez III had this to say about the incident.
We’ve never seen them detain family units, children, like this. And I think it’s part of this administration to round up as many immigrants as possible. We have not seen this before, and I think the point is to instill fear and kind of be cruel about this process.
Many folks on Reddit were very upset at the news and what happened.
“Sickening!!”
“Fear tactics 101. Appalling.”
“They really get off on hurting children, don’t they?”
“It’s been going on for like a decade by this point. One thing I hate about Democrats and Reddit leftists is that people only seem to pay attention once a Republican is in charge, only to stop talking about this when a Democrat is elected.”
Immigrant families should be wary of these court cases, but it’s pretty hard when ICE essentially makes it a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.
