A viral video has been circulating on the internet that shows a tow truck driver in Kansas City, Missouri, angrily arguing with drivers when he realizes they don’t have the money for a tow. However, they weren’t the ones who called the driver in the first place.
The video was originally posted to the social media platform TikTok, where it was viewed by thousands. Some users commented below, expressing their opinions on the situation, while also creating a larger conversation about taking accountability.
The brief video appears to take place in a parking lot, and features a tow truck driver wearing a high-visibility vest. Throughout the clip, he can be heard yelling expletives at the driver because of how early in the morning it was. The other driver can be heard replying with, “we’re just some kids from Iowa trying to get home, man.”
According to the caption, “Our car died on the way back home from Kansas City, MO. A firefighter radioed the sheriff for a jump and we’re guessing the sheriff radioed for a tow truck. Mind you, all we needed was a jump start and we had no intentions on getting towed or even any help for that matter, we were just gonna hope someone drove by and helped us out. We explained to the guy that we didn’t have money to have us towed all the way back to Iowa. He ended up dragging our car 2 feet, cussing at us some more and just leaving us stranded.”
A tow requires a professional to pick up and move your car to another location when it cannot do so on its own, while a jump is simply transferring electricity from one car battery to another. Towing is also typically a paid service, which is why the man in the video was upset about the drivers not having money.
Reactions to Missouri Tow Truck Driver’s Behavior
Users took to the comments to share their opinions, with some condemning the tow truck driver’s behavior. I regards to a comment the driver made about only getting an hour of sleep, one commenter wrote, “He said he got an hour of sleep. Crazy idea. Hear me out. Go to bed before 4 am?“
The video gained popularity in the first place due to the person recording’s de-escalation skills while being rudely spoken to by the tow truck driver. At this, another person wrote, “If I DID need a tow this guy would not be the one doing it.”
Another commenter wrote, “Why is the customer implementing descalation skills and not the provider. nah.“
According to the caption, the tow truck driver left shortly after the video was taken. However, another car drove by and stopped with jumper cables, helping them out and getting them on their way. One comment claims the tow truck driver in the video posted an apology on TikTok, though we were unable to locate the post.
