An almost unbelievable event unfolded in Burr Ridge, Illinois, as a citizen confronted three policemen just outside a bar and accused them of being drunk. As seen in a video posted on TikTok, the citizen approached a police vehicle while filming just as an officer was about to get in the driver’s seat.
The eyewitness demanded to know the cop’s name. The man then demanded what the cop was doing there and asked for a sergeant. Directed by the cop he had just confronted, the individual approached another police vehicle, with the driver trying to exit the parking lot. “Come here,” he called after him. Soon, he resorted to shouting and stepping in front of the car to ensure the driver stopped.
“What’s your name? Out of your car right now!” the citizen demanded before asking the cop to identify himself. “Sergeant Husarik,” the cop responded. When the citizen inquired if the cop had been drinking, the cop kept demanding, “Do you need something?” Not deterred by the Sergeant’s response, the citizen kept pressing, “You’re drunk!” The sergeant asked again, “Do you need some help, sir?” Finally, the resident responded, “Yes, I need an officer; you guys are f**ked up!”
The man then pulled out his phone and dialled 911, demanding a different set of cops on the scene. “That’s a misuse of 911,” one of the other officers accused. Unfazed, the citizen kept dialling and told the officers they could charge him. After giving his location to 911, the operator stated cops were on the scene. The caller then requested that other officers be sent and was told that it wasn’t possible.
When the citizen realized the operator was not going to bulge, he cried, “I’m in fear for my life, I’m in danger, I need help!” “No, you’re not,” the operator retorted. Finally, the operator said goodbye and ended the call. Still recording, “I need a breathalyzer here right now,” the citizen cried. As the officers turned to leave, the citizen accused. “You can’t even walk!” He then shared that he had “stalked these guys for two hours” and recorded the cars as they left to see if they’d stop at the red light.
Netizens had a lot to say about the entire encounter. One user who recognized the sergeant from the video revealed, “Ryan Husarik used to be the Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief. He got demoted to Sgt. after being arrested for a DUI in Virginia. He refused a breathalyzer.”
Another user quipped sarcastically, “Jeez, man, leave them be. They’re late home to beat their wives and family members.” One netizen was not only disturbed by the officers’ action, but by that of the citizen. “Aside from these officers being disgraces, this caller is an idiot,” they snapped. “Tell 911 what is actually going on. Don’t scream ‘help’. Report the officers.”
Commenting on the issues in the police force, a user wrote, “Even if a higher-ranking officer showed up, there’s no chance anything will happen to them. They call in the ‘blue wall of silence.’” Another Redditor chipped in on the issue of race. “The cameraman is clearly White; if they were non-Whites, the cops would have gunned them down for filming them and claimed terrorists,” they lamented.
Still on the issue of race, approving of the citizen’s boldness, a user commented, “We need more White privilege to be used for good.” One commenter was very impressed by the citizen, writing, “Punk a** cops, I’m glad buddy did what he did, who in the hell knows what that drunk bozo could have done that night.” Airing their opinion, this user wrote, “I think the guy filming handled the situation like an idiot, but it says a lot that they never arrested him for abuse of 911.”
The Burr Ridge Police Department is yet to issue a statement addressing the altercation and the allegations levied against their officers.
