After grinding through so many different kinds of online games, your first thought, when you start one up, starts becoming whether or not the game is pay-to-win. That was the case with Once Human both during the beta and the full release. You can purchase cosmetics, skins, and more using real-world money. However, does that translate to the game having a pay-to-win feature? Let’s dive into if Once Human is pay-to-win and how far that will get you.

Is Once Human Pay To Win?

After playing for several hours, I’ve concluded that Once Human is not pay-to-win. Currently, players can use real-world money to purchase cosmetics for their character. Of course, the game was only just released, meaning this could change anytime.

Developer NetEase is no stranger to pay-to-win features in their games. This fact makes fans of Once Human skeptical that it will happen to the game. Especially considering the developer is preparing to port the game to mobile devices. There is an aspect to the game, the Wish Machine, that has a bit of a pay-to-win aspect. You can use Starchrom to roll for different weapon blueprints. It’s essentially a gacha, and players can choose to spend real-world money on additional Starchrom to get more chances at rare blueprints.

Each roll costs 500 Starchrom, but players can save up their Starchrom and use it to purchase the blueprint itself. It’s costlier this way, but the blueprint is guaranteed. Otherwise, you might need to play the game repeatedly to obtain something you actually want. While it doesn’t mean players can easily buy their way to the top, the machine technically allows that once unlocked.
