Rihanna‘s music career has been on the back burner for years. Despite receiving little to no updates about her ninth album, fans believed she would drop it eventually once she found time to return to the studio. However, after waiting for what seems like forever, they’re now afraid R9 will never see the light of day. That’s right. They think the possibility of Rihanna retiring is near.
Rihanna Retiring Rumors Spread Like Wildfire
The singer sparked rumors she decided to cancel her ninth album when she was spotted making a bold fashion statement in New York City recently. While walking around the Big Apple with her long-time love A$AP Rocky, Rihanna was photographed wearing a blue t-shirt featuring the words “I’m Retired.” There appeared to be another phrase underneath. However, it was hard to read the message since Rihanna covered it with her green purse.
Considering she hasn’t released an album since 2016’s Anti, some fans took her fashion statement as a sign Rihanna is retiring from music. After all, she’s been busy with other ventures as of late. In 2017, she launched her cosmetics company Fenty Beauty. The following year, she celebrated the debut of her lingerie brand, Savage X Fenty. Since then, she’s only continued to expand her business with the launch of Fenty Skin and Fenty Hair.
Outside of her professional endeavors, the star has also been occupied with growing her family. In May 2022, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky became first-time parents with the arrival of their oldest son, RZA. After announcing her second pregnancy during her Super Bowl LVII halftime show performance, Rihanna gave birth to the couple’s second son, Riot, in August 2023.
Although some fans are worried Rihanna has become too busy for music, others believe R9 is still coming. Those hopeful fans are convinced her “I’m Retired” t-shirt is just a red herring. Since Rihanna has received countless questions about R9, they think her latest look is her way of trolling everyone.
So, is Rihanna retiring or is she just messing with fans? It seems we won’t know until she makes an official announcement.
