Tears of the Kingdom is shaping up to be a great sequel so far for the open-world Zelda series. While that is a resounding truth, there are some elements of both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom‘s stories that aren’t exactly clear. If you understand the first game’s story so far, you may be a little confused as to if Zelda is actually alive during Breath of the Wild. Alternatively, with passing knowledge of Tears of the Kingdom and what some cutscenes contain, you may also be questioning her status in that game. We have the answer for you, but just as another warning: spoilers abound! So, is Zelda dead in Tears of the Kingdom? How does the answer impact the game’s story going forward?
Does Zelda Die in Tears of the Kingdom?
Is Zelda dead in Tears of the Kingdom? Good news! No, Zelda does not die in Tears of the Kingdom. While she did take a pretty convincing fall, we’re confident she’s not dead. As you may remember, she does fall into a put below Hyrule Castle. This is at the beginning of the game, but it doesn’t mean the end of her life. Instead of being killed off, Zelda is instead sent back to the past. From there, she’s forced to fight the Demon King Demise and, as a result, becomes the Sage of Time. As a Sage, she joins the other Sages of Time to help try and put an end to the corruption of Hyrule. And no, she doesn’t die at the end of Tears of the Kingdom either. After the battle between her and Demise, she returns to the present, back to Link.
Is Zelda Dead in Breath of the Wild?
As you already know, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom aren’t exactly linear in terms of time. If you’re a fan of this iteration of the pair, we have good news. While Zelda and Link were incapacitated for about 100 years each during the events of these games, she didn’t die in Breath of the Wild either. Due to magic and other Hyrule shenanigans, these two managed to survive barely. Through their respective naps in pools of restoration, they’re without memories after the ordeal. However, that’s a small price to pay for being alive and still able to swing a sword or draw a bow.
