A fan says her attempt to meet Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, at a rodeo in Houston, Texas, turned into a disappointing experience that quickly went viral on TikTok. In a video shared online, the woman described feeling ignored during the encounter after purchasing gumbo from Knowles’ stand, sparking a wave of reactions from viewers across social media.
The video posted on TikTok captured the fan’s emotional outburst. “Awful, it was an awful experience, it was terrible,” she recounted while describing her encounter with Ms. Knowles. “I haven’t even tasted the gumbo yet, but my feelings are so hurt,” she emphasized, as someone behind the camera held the gumbo for her while recording her reaction. She continued, explaining that she regretted buying the gumbo after the encounter.
“I was so excited to meet this lady and thought I could just exchange some good energy, with good hellos and stuff. It was terrible. I literally could break down and cry,” she said. She added that Tina allegedly didn’t acknowledge her presence and walked away from her several times. “The only reason I have this [Expletive] is because I was too embarrassed to walk away out of the line,” she further explained as the reason she still bought the gumbo.
The upset customer did not hold back when describing how the encounter made her feel. “It was like meeting the most evil, wicked witch of the west,” she said. “The gumbo, for starters, it stinks, and I’m not even lying,” she explained as she criticized the food, adding that she felt it might make her throw up. Still, she said she was determined to taste it because she had already gone through the process of buying it.
“It smells like burnt fish,” she remarked before cautiously tasting it with the tip of her tongue. She also complained that what she saw online looked different from what she was sold. In the end, she did not take a proper bite, repeatedly emphasizing how disgusted she felt before the video ended with someone asking if they could turn off the camera.
Fans Demonstrated Division Over the Situation in Texas
The video quickly sparked debate online, with fans taking sides in the comments section.
One user expressed embarrassment over the situation, writing, “I have bad secondhand embarrassment for these people, excited to see and going out of their way to try to meet a celebrity’s mom is INSANE.” Another commenter urged people to be more self-aware, writing, “When will people learn that these celebrities and elites don’t like us peasants?”
One person emphasized the importance of basic courtesy toward fans:
“For those saying she doesn’t have to do this or that with the fans and the fans/customers feel entitled. She is asking BEYONCÉ FANS and others to buy her expensive gumbo based on her daughter’s celebrity status and her adjacent status. She BETTER say hi to the damn fans; otherwise WHAT’S the point?”
Meanwhile, some netizens saw the situation differently and felt the reaction was exaggerated. “I could never be this upset over a celebrity’s mama not saying hi to me,” someone wrote. Another user asked for people to extend some grace, writing, “Do y’all know how many people Tina has encountered since she’s been there. She’s probably drained. Give her some grace.”
“She took a picture with you! Did you expect her to walk around the rodeo with you holding hands? People are [expletive]!!!!😂,” another commenter joked.
As the clip continues to circulate online, viewers remain divided over what really happened during the brief encounter. While some believe the fan’s disappointment was justified, others argue that celebrities and their families cannot realistically meet every expectation placed on them during public appearances.
