January just ended a couple of days ago –which took an eternity– and gamers have already figured out what game will win the GOTY award at The Game Awards in 2024. If you think that is weird, then wait until you hear the reason behind it.

Fans Believe Dragon’s Dogma 2 Will Win GOTY of 2024

While 2024 doesn’t seem packed with anticipating games compared to last year, there are still games that fans can’t wait to play. Dragon’s Dogma II is one of the most anticipated games of this year. Even though the game hasn’t been released yet, Reddit has decided that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will take the GOTY prize in The Game Awards 2024.

Surely Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the GOTY contenders if the quality of the game is good enough, but the reason why folks think it will win the prize is… outside the box, to say the least. The theory is that Dragon’s Dogma II will take the award because it is going to be released close to the PC port of Horizon Forbidden West. And why is that relevant? Well, Horizon Zero Dawn was released close to Breath of the Wild and Forbidden West was released close to Elden Ring. The mutual point of both Elden Ring and BOTW is that they ended up winning the Game of the Year award in The Game Awards. As it seems, any big game that is going to be released close to Horizon games will end up winning the Game of the Year.

Hardly scientific. But it’s fair to say that doesn’t mean Dragon’s Dogma II doesn’t have a chance. From what the studio has shown and the anticipation of the game, it is considered one of the most important games released this year.

Apart from that, role-playing games tend to have a higher chance of winning the GOTY compared to other genres. Of the last ten Game of the Year, five of them were RPGs, including last year when Baldur’s Gate 3 won the prize. This means Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a higher chance as well if it ends up being a good-quality game.
