Jacob Elordi is making waves for his role of Felix Catton in Saltburn. However, his co-star, Barry Keoghan stole the show with his portrayal of the character Oliver Quick in multiple controversial scenes. One such scene that has been getting a lot of attention is the infamous bathtub scene, where Oliver drinks Felix’s bathwater. However, Elordi recently revealed that Keoghan nearly didn’t land the role of Oliver. Instead, Timothée Chalamet was originally considered to portray the character.
During an interview with both Elordi and Keoghan, the actors revealed what drew them to the film. Both of them agreed that director Emerald Fennell was a huge factor for them both. Meanwhile, Keoghan admitted that Elordi’s casting was also a draw for him. “Definitely, yeah, it was Emerald,” Elordi said, per Independent. “Then she said she wanted Timothée Chalamet for it. And I said have you thought about Barry Keoghan?”
Timothee Chalamet Was the First Choice for Saltburn’s Oliver
Of course, Chalamet is a huge star who has been climbing the ladder to A-list stardom for years. With films such as Dune, Little Women, Wonka, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, and others under his belt, fans love his style of acting. However, Keoghan knocked the role of Oliver out of the park. He was even nominated for a Gold Globe for his performance.
Saltburn has been divisive among fans. It’s also garnered a ton of attention on social media for its provocative scenes and beautiful imagery. Despite it all, Jacob Elordi has admitted that the controversial scenes didn’t shock him. Instead, he was excited to see them play out in the film.
“I was just really excited when I read that scene, because… you don’t really see things like that in sort of mainstream movies… a lot of the time, so it’s just great that [Emerald Fennell] was allowed to kind of push those boundaries and expose people like that,” Elordi said of the bathtub scenario.
Meanwhile, fans are thrilled that it was Barry Keoghan who eventually landed the role. He and Jacob Elordi’s chemistry was mesmerizing on screen, and fans of the movie couldn’t get enough.
