Jamie Foxx reprising his role as Electro in the MCU Spider-Man movies? Who would have thought? This surprising news from two days ago has received The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star’s confirmation, as he took to Instagram to voice his excitement for the role. Unfortunately, the Instagram post in question is now deleted, but luckily, the folks at ComicBook.com captured an image beforehand. In the post, Foxx said the following:
“Tell Spidey let’s run it back!…super excited to be part of the new marvel Spider-Man new installment…can t[sic] wait for y’all to check the new one. And I won’t be blue in this one!! But a thousand percent badass!!! #swipeleft”
The image posted alongside Foxx’s statement seems to imply a multiverse on the MCU’s horizon. The three Spider-Men at the bottom of the image appear to be (from left to right) Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parkers. Of course, there’s a chance we could be reading too much into it. After all, J. K. Simmons reprised his role as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home and it turned out to be an alternate version than the one he played in the Sam Raimi movies. It’s just as likely that Foxx could be playing an alternate version of Electro (and perhaps likely given he is no longer blue as in TASM 2…also, he died in that one!)
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx played a socially inept electrical engineer Maxwell “Max” Dillon. His version of Electro is initially a big fan of Spider-Man before his transformation leads him to lock horns with the wise-cracking wall-crawler. He eventually joins forces with the Green Goblin (played by Dane Dehaan) to take down Spidey for good. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third Spider-Man film is set for release on December 21, 2021. Reportedly, the film is due to start shooting this fall.
