“American Pie” star Jason Biggs is opening up about his past struggles with addiction. He recalled a particularly harrowing moment when he literally climbed into a trash bin to retrieve discarded cocaine. During an appearance on the “Well with Arielle Lorre” podcast, Biggs shared raw details about his years-long battle with substance abuse, describing one incident that marked a turning point.
โOne of my craziest stories was, I was doing cocaine by myself in my house, and I did what I said was the last line,โ Biggs began. In an effort to quit, he threw the rest of his stash into the trash bin. But that resolve didnโt last long. โWithin 15 minutes, as soon as my last bump is wearing off, Iโm like, what am I doing? I go into my trash, and I take it out and I do a line,โ he confessed.
Still trying to stop, Jason Biggs said he tossed the rest away again and reached for an Ambien to help him sleep. But temptation struck once more. โBefore I took the Ambien, I was like, โOne more,โโ he recalled. โI went outside and I climbed into the trash bin and got the bag of coke and went upstairs and did another line. I was like, โWhat the f-ck am I doing? This is absolutely insane.โโ
Jason Biggs Opens Up About Cocaine Addiction and Rock Bottom Moment
The “Orange Is the New Black” actor also opened up about how early fame fueled his addiction. After skyrocketing to fame with American Pie, Jason Biggs found himself in a risky position. At just 22 years old, he had access to fame, money, and cocaine, an explosive combination that quickly became dangerous. โI learned very quickly that people rarely said no to a famous kid with money in the bank and coke in my pocket,โ he admitted.
Jason Biggs also shared that he kept the extent of his addiction hidden from his wife, actress Jenny Mollen, during the early years of their relationship. โI was blocking everything out with drugs and alcohol,โ he said, acknowledging that he was emotionally disconnected at the time.
His journey to sobriety didnโt happen overnight. Biggs said moving from Los Angeles to New York played a key role in his recovery. โThereโs something about the energy of New York that gives me something, that fills me in a way that Los Angeles couldnโt,โ he explained. โI did fall off the wagon here, but that was seven and a half years ago, and itโs been going well.โ
Jason Biggs Admits He Drank After Therapy Sessions to Numb Pain
Jason Biggs also discussed his struggle with alcoholism earlier this year on his wifeโs “All the Fails” podcast. โIโm going to therapy and โworking on things,โ but meanwhile Iโm leaving therapy, having just had a good session, and Iโm going to the liquor store and buying a fifth of vodka, drinking it and then driving home,โ he admitted, adding that his drinking became a tool for numbing himself from life. โI knew how to get wasted enough to where I took myself out of the life equationโฆ didnโt have to connect in a way that made me feel things.โ
The actor first revealed in 2018 that he had reached one year of sobriety, noting that it took five years of attempts to get there. Heโs now been sober for over seven years. Now firmly in recovery, Jason Biggs openly shares his journey with honesty and humor. His story serves as a powerful reminder of how far heโs come and the strength it took to get there.
