Back on Saturday, November 2, 2024, Jason Kelce attended the Ohio State-Penn football game, but his weekend was soured by a heckler who called his brother, Travis Kelce a homophobic slur. As a response, Jason Kelce quickly grabbed and smashed the heckler’s phone, leaving it broken and the onlookers shocked. With the videos circulating online, Jason Kelce had to give his side on Monday Night Countdown on ESPN.
“I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it. Within a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I don’t think that’s productive. I don’t think it leads to discourse,” addressed Jason Kelce.
The game took place at Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania. As for the footage, here’s what took place in two different angles, courtesy of football fans in X/Twitter:
According to the witnesses, the heckler said “Hey, Kelce. How does it feel your brother’s a f***** dating Taylor Swift?” And was met with a decisive response. Jason Kelce quickly turned around, grabbed the man’s phone, and smashed it on the ground. He then picked up the smashed phone and walked away.
Jason Kelce Had a Heated Response to the Heckler
Another angle of the video showed Jason Kelce taunting the heckler back with “Who’s the f***** now?!” after the man tried to retrieve his phone from the former football star. The heckler was apparently a Penn State fan and wore the corresponding hoodie.
Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce’s brother, has been dating Taylor Swift for over a year now, with the couple constantly gaining a spotlight just about wherever they go.
After giving his statement on ESPN, Jason Kelce ended it with “We got a game to focus on. A matchup. I don’t think this is the platform to necessarily go into more detail.” Jason Kelce remains adamant, however, that he will try to live his life by the golden rules and treat people with decency and respect.
With that said, Jason Kelce also apologized for how he responded. He stated that it was not productive of him to hurl back the heckler’s insult about his brother. Jason Kelce admitted that he fell short of his ideals this weekend and would try to better as his response was not the right way to go about things.
As for the heckler and Penn State fan, he hasn’t been heard from since the incident. It’s not clear whether he would press charges against Jason Kelce, but so far his identity has remained hidden from the public eye.
