On July 24, 2023, fans were heartbroken following the news of Jazmine Sullivan’s mom’s death. The 37-year-old shared the tragedy on Instagram, revealing Pamela passed away at 64, two days before — she died nearly four years after a breast cancer diagnosis.
“I don’t have the words yet mommy. So for now I’ll say thank you. Rest now butterfly 🦋. 10/26/58- 07/22/23 💔,” Sullivan captioned a throwback photo of her mom.
Nine months after her mom’s passing, the two-time Grammy Award winner is still reeling from the tragedy. On Tuesday, Sullivan took to Instagram with a heartfelt post, offering a glimpse into her journey of processing her mom’s loss. The songwriter shared a video, capturing moments that showed her happy, at peace, and in her element. The clip showed Sullivan in the gym, performing on stage, on vacation in the jungle, hanging out with friends, and doing other fun things. However, beneath the happiness, she admitted she was hurting.
“I miss my mommy! I tried so hard to keep busy for my birthday to distract myself, but I don’t think it works like that,” Sullivan wrote in the caption.
She also revealed she cried throughout the month and would cry for the rest of her life.
“But I’ll also smile, laugh, and dance in between the tears! So thank God for that! ❤,” she concluded.
