Donald Trump‘s vice president pick, JD Vance, is receiving criticism from Hollywood powerhouses like Jennifer Aniston. After a resurfaced 2021 interview where Vance referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as a “childless cat lady,” Aniston, who rarely comments on political events, put the senator on blast.
In an Instagram Story update, the Friends actress slammed Vance. She admitted that she couldn’t “believe” such a negative comment was “coming from a potential VP of The United States.” Seemingly referencing her struggles with fertility, Aniston wrote:
“All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”
Aniston, who has been married twice — to Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux — has been vocal about her infertility journey. In November 2022, she opened up about her personal IVF journey in an emotional interview. “I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” she shared. “I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it.”
The interview in question saw Vance lament about women being in power to Tucker Carlson of Fox News. He said that the United States was being led by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” The Ohio senator proceeded to name Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as people who fit the description.
Vance’s comments resurfaced because Kamala Harris was considered the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee after Joe Biden dropped out of the race.
Meghan McCain Joins Jennifer Aniston, Speaks Out About ‘Innately Unchristian’ Comment
Aniston isn’t the only star that has publicly criticized Vance’s remark. The View alum, Meghan McCain, didn’t seem to like his comment despite being a staunch Republican. In a series of tweets, she condemned the rhetoric, writing:
“This ‘childless women’ comment by JD Vance has made so many waves with so many different friends of mine for its insensitivity and cruelty to women.”
In a separate tweet, the political commentator described Vance’s comment as “innately unchristian” and causing “real pain.” Vance has yet to address the backlash, but the heat toward him isn’t dying anytime soon.
