Jennifer Lopez is on the brink of frustration as the ghosts from her past with Ben Affleck keep haunting her months after divorce filing, and the house situation makes things harder. The crooner filed for divorce from Ben in August 2024, after barely two years of marriage. The divorce petition dated August 20 followed weeks of speculations about the state of their marriage as the eagle-eyed public noticed the duo appeared to be drifting apart, with fewer joint appearances. A telling sign of the split was Affleck’s decision to move out of the couple’s $60.8 million Beverly Hills mansion which they purchased together in May 2023 as matrimonial property.
Since confirming their split with the filing, Ben Affleck has built a new life for himself in Brentwood, close to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their shared children. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez remains stuck in their 38,000-square feet house, despite the couple putting it up for sale several months back at $68 million.
Jennifer Lopez Feels Trapped in Matrimonial Home With Haunting Memories
Speaking to In Touch, a source weighed in on the prolonged wait to secure a buyer for the home, and the overall effect it is having on Lopez. The source divulged,
“She has been told that only a select group of buyers would be interested and have that amount of money, but it is becoming increasingly frustrating to be there.”
Going further, the source explained that with an extensive stay in the market, the house now feels like “a noose around her neck,” making Jennifer Lopez feel “trapped” and constantly haunted by all the bad memories of Ben Affleck. The source added,
“Not even her weird voodoo magic has helped her. The place still has Ben’s fingerprints everywhere.”
Ben Affleck Never Liked the Beverly Hills Home Unlike Jennifer Lopez
Ben Affleck’s move to distance himself from the house, and ultimately, Jenifer Lopez is not making things any easier for her. Aside from setting up his new base in Brentwood and spending more time with Garner and his Kids, the 52-year-old seemingly frustrates Lopez’s efforts to have him spend time in their once-shared home, even blowing off her Thanksgiving offer some insiders claim. It seems almost like a conscious effort to ward off memories of their shared life, and moments in their matrimonial home for good.
Like Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez has sought to move out of the Beverly Hills house post-divorce. However, the delay in sales and Lopez’s unsuccessful house hunting are some of the stumbling blocks in her way. Ironically, just a year prior, the 55-year-old considered the mansion her dream home, even convincing her then-husband Affleck to buy into it despite his initial reservations. According to one insider, the two disagreed on some details about the mansion before acquiring it, including its Beverly Hills location, which Affleck considered too far away from his kids, who live with their mom in Brentwood.
Additionally, Affleck reportedly felt uncomfortable in the house because the aesthetic did not appeal to him. In contrast, Jennifer Lopez loved the place and was excited to snag it at all costs. Who would have thought the Atlas star would be so eager to rid herself of it barely a year after the purchase?
