At this rate, space is probably going to be the next Mt. Everest for people looking for rare human achievements, and Jessica Alba recently got one step closer to that with the help of her lotion. Actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba became emotional this week in California after learning that an astronaut aboard the historic Artemis II mission had requested one of her company’s products from space.
In an Instagram Reel posted Tuesday, Alba, who lives in Beverly Hills, California, reacted to footage of astronaut Christina Koch asking for a bottle of Honest lotion while aboard the spacecraft. Apparently, their care cargo didn’t include the hand lotion.
“Yes, this one might take some digging,” Koch said in the clip. “I’m looking for a specific community hygiene item that is Honest lotion.” Alba, who founded The Honest Company in 2012, appeared visibly shocked as she listened to the request from orbit. Smiling through tears, she responded, “What? That is wild.” The actress went on to explain that she created the brand to provide safer products for families and said the company’s name was inspired by her daughter, Honor.
After hearing that Koch’s preference for her products, even in space, Alba couldn’t help but tear up with joy and imparted some words of inspiration to anyone looking to follow their dreams or something. “And then… now it’s in space! What?” Alba said in the video. “This is a trip. This is a moment I never thought would be my real life.”
The emotional moment quickly went viral online, but not everyone was convinced it was authentic. Critics on social media accused the exchange of feeling more like product placement than a spontaneous request from an astronaut.
Some People Don’t Buy It
Plenty of X users mocked the situation and Alba’s reaction, pointing to recent viral moments from the mission, including floating food items seen on livestreams from the spacecraft. Others questioned why a skincare product was becoming a headline during a major lunar mission, with several calling the moment “staged” and “too perfect.”
One skeptical commenter wrote, “Oh wow that’s really organic and not staged,” while another joked that the request sounded “This all sounds a little dis-Honest.” Still, supporters defended Alba, arguing that the reaction felt genuine and that astronauts asking for comfort items during long missions is not unusual. So far, Alba hasn’t confirmed nor denied these accusations and arguments at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, the most visible reactions on Alba’s Instagram post were, of course, positive, with plenty of fans praising her, calling it a win for her lotion, “That’s a real win, first lotion in space, furthest lotion in space 👏👏.” At the very least, Alba didn’t have to send a car into space just so she could have a space-related achievement.
