Jessica Simpson’s name has been in the media a lot recently, both for her personal and professional life. As the singer tries to find her new normal amid a split from her husband of over ten years, Eric Johnson, her work has also kept her busy. The star will be releasing her new EP later this year titled Nashville Canyon (and it’s a big deal because it’s her first music in 15 years).
The “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” singer has been teasing her latest projects on social media, including photos of her in the recording studio and updates about when her music will drop. This week was a big deal for Simpson fans because her single “Use My Heart Against Me” was released. Fans are buying into the hype, but you’ll also notice that Simpson appears in good spirits and is more confident in who she is than when she was a younger artist. She recently discussed this in an interview with People, noting how her new music differs from the bubblegum pop that catapulted her into stardom in 1991.
This Is The Jessica Simpson Fans Have Been Waiting For
“You have a lot of people pushing and pulling at you, and putting money into you, and you say ‘Yes,'” she told the publication about how she initially felt about her career. “I’m obedient. I’m a preacher’s daughter. I didn’t stand up for myself. I had a big voice but I didn’t have a voice that people would listen to when I would speak.” But she has found her voice, and she is using it. The singer explained that her new EP helped her do more than get back into singing; it let her learn who she is.
“I came in with: forget who they told you to be. That was the manufactured version of myself,” she said of her thinking when making her EP. “Remember the person that opened her mouth and sang ‘Amazing Grace’ for the first time. Remember that girl and remember that as a woman — and to have freedom in music, that’s what you’re going to hear in Nashville Canyon.”
The star’s statement is empowering and serves as a reminder that nothing is more important than staying true to yourself and standing up for what you believe in. Simpson’s approach to her music shows a more mature and confident version of herself as she rediscovers her passion. Fans have also remarked on this. On a photo posted to her Instagram promoting “Use My Heart Against Me,” fans flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts. “Congratulations this is something special,” a comment reads. “Jessica gave to this song her soul and heart. And that’s perfect,” another fan weighed in.
We look forward to hearing the whole EP now!
