Green Lantern John Stewart is getting his own one-shot under his new title of Emerald Knight. Writer Geoffrey Thorne and artist Marco Santucci team up for John Stewart: The Emerald Knight #1. Per CBR, the one-shot focuses on Stewart embracing his new role and joining his fellow Lanterns to face-off against a powerful enemy. It is set for release in November from DC.
How Did John Stewart Get His New Title?
Back in April, Thorne, and Santucci, alongside Tom Raney, Mike Atiyeh, and Rob Leigh, released Green Lantern #12. The issue focused on John Stewart partaking in a conversation with the Source. The Source, a sentient form of limitless energy, and Stewart began to ponder the latters role within the great Omniverse. After all, Stewart recently absorbed the Godstrom and was in the middle of getting a handle on a new set of powers.
However, in the middle of the conversation, Stewart transformed into a new being. In the closing pages of the issue, he triumphantly announces that the planet is under the protection of the newly formed Emerald Knight. This new form boasts an awesome new costume and a nasty-looking Emerald sword.
What Can We Expect From This One-Shot?
Now, this one-shot explores what it means for John Stewart to be the Emerald Knight. Currently, Stewart and his fellow Green Lantern teammates cannot escape the Dark Sector. Specifically, they cannot get past mad New God, Esak. However, with the power of the Godstrom at his disposal, Stewart is using all he has to take down Esak. Hopefully, he can win the fight and bring his teammates home. However, it is going to take something new to take this villain down. It is going to take the Emerald Knight!
John Stewart: The Emerald Knight #1 features cover art from Mateus Manhanini with additional variants from Jay Hero and Caanan White. It hits shelves on November 29.
