Meredith Gaudreau is mourning her husband, Johnny Gaudreau’s painful loss. The heartbroken widow spoke out for the first time since the NHL star and his brother Matthew Gaudreau lost their lives in a fatal drunken driving accident.
On Saturday, Meredith dedicated two heart-wrenching post to honor her late husband’s legacy. Alongside a carousel of photos depicting the beautiful life they shared together, she wrote, “Thank you for the best years of my life. Despite losing you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been yours. I love you so so much.” Meredith continued, calling her late husband “perfect” and explaining that some days with him seemed too good to be true. “I love every single thing about you. You are my forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever,” the message concluded.
In another post, Meredith let the world know that the former Columbus Blue Jackets player was a great father to their children. She uploaded photos of the late pro athlete doting on their two young children under the age of 2, Noa and Jonny. “The absolute best dad in the world. So caring and loving,” she began. “The best partner to go through parenthood with.” Gushing about how much he was a present father, the widow penned:
“John never missed a single appointment. Was the best at putting the baby to sleep and the Apple of Noa’s eye. I love how much she looks like him. We are going to make you proud. We love you so so so much daddy”
The Tragic Details Surrounding Johnny Gaudreau’s Death
The tear-jerking tributes come two days after Johnny and his younger brother Matthew had their lives cut short. On Thursday, the siblings were riding their bicycles in Salem County, NJ when driver Sean M. Higgins struck them from behind in an attempt to pass two slow-moving vehicles. Per TMZ, the brothers sustained serious injuries and were declared dead at the scene. Higgins, who admitted to consuming five or six beers before the crash, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
The devastating accident happened just hours before their sister Katie Gaudreau was set to tie the knot with Devin Joyce. Johnny and Matthew, who were slated to be groomsmen, had attended the rehearsal dinner before their death. The wedding has since been canceled. In addition, Matthew, 29, was expecting his first child with his wife Madeline. She was due in four months.
