JoJo Siwa didn’t think Miley Cyrus‘ joke about her was funny. After the “Flowers” singer claimed that Siwa had returned to the closet amid her relationship with Chris Hughes, the Dance Moms star reacted to her comment in a lengthy Instagram post. She didn’t think Cyrus meant any harm by what she said. However, Siwa still couldn’t help but feel offended. As someone who is still discovering herself, Siwa said that jokes about her sexuality are not what she “needs” to hear right now.
The Drama With JoJo Siwa and Miley Cyrus
Although she tries her best to ignore judgment, JoJo Siwa said it’s hard to do that when it’s coming from one of her biggest childhood idols. After hearing what Miley Cyrus said about her at a World Pride event recently, Siwa took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the situation.
The reality star began her post by discussing her lifelong admiration for Cyrus. Siwa said her love for the “Wrecking Ball” singer started when she was just two years old. To prove she has always been the biggest Miley Cyrus fan, Siwa shared photos of her throwing a Hannah Montana-themed birthday party, wearing a Bangerz t-shirt, copying Cyrus’ iconic pixie cut, and even meeting Cyrus herself. “If you know me, you know that Miley is my day 1,” she said.
Since she has so much respect for Cyrus, JoJo Siwa said that hearing her poke fun at her sexuality gave her mixed feelings. She took a few days to think the situation over. In the end, Siwa decided to give Cyrus the benefit of the doubt. “I don’t believe what Miley said at World Pride was ill-intended,” she said. Siwa explained that Cyrus likely meant her comment as a joke. However, she said it wasn’t a “very good one” since it touched a nerve.
Siwa said she reached out to Cyrus to explain what she meant. The pop star clarified that she didn’t mean any harm and had nothing but “love” for Siwa.
Ending Her Post On A Positive Note
Thankfully, JoJo Siwa and Miley Cyrus were able to clear the air. After clarifying there was no more drama between them, the “Karma” singer ended her post by telling fans that she is still exploring. “Love is a gorgeous rainbow,” Siwa said. Since coming out as part of the LGBTQ+ community nearly five years ago, Siwa said she has tried not to let anyone’s criticism of her sexuality affect how she lives her life because “people judge no matter what.”
“You get one life… hold onto it, make it yours, find your happy, and love,” she wrote.
JoJo Siwa’s post comes days after Cyrus mentioned her in a controversial video that played during World Pride. During the clip, Cyrus joked that she would try and help bring Siwa “back out” of the closet.
Her comment comes amid Siwa’s new relationship with her Celebrity Big Brother co-star Chris Hughes. The pair grew close while filming the reality series together earlier this year. Their relationship appeared to help Siwa realize she’s queer after years of identifying as a lesbian.
