Jon Bon Jovi has been in the headlines a lot recently following the release of his new docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. Fans have been excited to discover more about the musician and his decades as a rock star. Many have also learned about a surprising bond he shares with Shania Twain. The Bed of Roses singer recently revealed how Twain supported him throughout his vocal chord issues. He even referred to her as his “spirit sister” in an interview with People.
Jon Bon Jovi’s Friendship With Shania Twain
Jon Bon Jovi’s friendship with Shania Twain was strengthened when they find themselves in similar situations. In 2015, Bon Jovi experienced vocal chord problems, and years later, he would require medical intervention. In 2022, it had gotten so bad that he needed an operation performed by doctor Robert Sataloff. Twain herself has been open about her vocals and in 2018, she underwent a vocal fold medialization procedure.
Knowing someone who had gone through the same thing he was experiencing gave Bon Jovi incredible strength. He reflected on this in a recent interview with People. “She’s the only other one I’ve known that’s ever had this surgery, with this doctor, and the only reason I found that out is because she reported it in the press,” he told the publication.
“Not only did she reassure me that it would be OK, but I think she also pulled my leg a little bit because she told me I’d be out there a lot sooner than I have been. She says, ‘Well, I told you that because I knew that you might back out otherwise.’” With Twain’s encouragement and honesty about the procedure, Bon Jovi revealed he “couldn’t wait to get the operation.”
Jon Bon Jovi has been honest about the brutal recovery process from his vocal surgery, and he is still working on getting better. However, the silver lining to this situation is a stronger friendship with Shania Twain.
